PlayDate - Green Screen technology

Return to Play 2 Learn
What it is? Green Screen video capture is a technique within video editing software where a unique background is layered behind the object or individual in the front of the scene. This is done using a green or blue background since it provided the greatest contrast to skin tones and most objects. View the samples below from Hollywood creations and classroom presentations. A deeper read is found on Sylvia Rosenthal-Tolisano's site.

Steps to Prepare: following the steps presented by Jason Ohler in Nome Alaska, as shared HERE.
  1. Pre-step 1 - Plan, permissions, gather and prepare tools to use
  2. Pre-step 2 - Consider and connect to curriculum
  3. Pre-step 3 - Cultural values and ethical considerations, consider audience, showcase and/or distribution
  4. Step 1 - Prepare, plan, imagine your "story"
  5. Step 2 - Map the story, think about sequence & transitions

Here are several examples, blogs and links that will get your creative applications started. Think of your upcoming placement experience and how green screening technology could be applied to a culminating task for a unit plan.
